The Bull Jumping Ceremony is the most important event in Hamer society. During this initiation, the bulls are lined up in a row. The initiate, naked, has to leap onto the back of the first bull, then from one bull to the next, and come back in the opposite direction. If he succeed, he will be able to take a wife. If he fails it will be a shame for him and he will have to wait at least for a year and try again.
La cérémonie du saut des taureaux est la plus importante dans la société Hamer. Durant cette initiation, les taureaux sont alignés. L'initié, nu, doit sauter sur le dos du premier taureau, puis sur les suivants et revenir dans l'autre sens. S'il réussit il pourra se marier mais s'il tombe ce sera une honte pour lui et il devra recommencer l'année suivante.
